It may also be, as Dorothy Parker said, that the Statue of Liberty is located in Lake Ontario. I mean yes, Garcia Marquez casually characterizes his horndog protagonist as 'one who demands everything and gives nothing', and his rival as a perfect husband ie totally self-absorbed and utterly useless around the house. I'll give him half the benefit of the doubt. But I really can't be having with the unironic representation of all women quite naturally devoting themselves to helping whatever man happens to wander by, sexually or not, so that's it for me and GGM.
