The incredible shrinking woman
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021 10:20 amThey measured and weighed me before surgery at the hospital and at first I was all oh dear another two pounds about the weight until I realized I'd just done what I did in Japan-- assumed there was a 1 in front of that 80 and they were measuring me in pounds. 80 kg is exactly what I've weighed this last week, registering the consumption of pumpkin pie, sugar cookies, and gin. Given that I currently eat two small meals a day-- opioids kill appetite and little else-- I expect to be somewhat less than that by the time I'm able to get back on a scale.
But the height! I'm pretty sure I was slumping a bit because I can't stand straight on my bad leg. But 168 cm is 5'6 and a bit, is at least two inches/ 5 cm less than the last time anyone measured me. Well, no wonder I had trouble getting on the bike bought when I was an inch taller even than that.
(I don't like metric. It has no reflex values for me. Five feet is a standard, twelve inches is a standard, 120 cm means nothing. And there's a difference between 68 and 70 F that doesn't exist between 20 and 21.11111. Fine for scientists, but ordinary people live in smaller increments than that.)
