Wednesday, February 14th, 2024 08:57 pmWe're supposed to get Significant Snow tomorrow, which might explain the annoying not-quite-a-headache that's been hovering just above my eyes all day. That and the aching draining sinuses of late winter. Shall not put the garbage out tonight, since I have very little garbage, and thus will not have to bring the bins back in tomorrow. This being a garbage-garbage day, ie not recycle, I'd normally trun a buncha useless things in the bag, but that can wait till next month when it will be light after 6.
Having finished Ancillary Justice and Ancillary Sword, am now embarked on Ancillary Mercy. Seasoned my reading with two non-Poirot non-Marple ACs, Towards Zero and Parker Pyne Investigates, but sent The Hidden Palace back one chapter in, not being in the mood for this-world fantasy when what I want is that-world space opera. I'll probably go on to read all the Radch extras because. I don’t know what it says about Trawna readers that there was quite a wait for Justice while the others were all available immediately, but am glad it's so.
I think I liked Sword better than Justice just because I'm never on top of split narratives, and also because Justice seemed to be too much in dialogue with The Left Hand of Darkness to be comfortable-- even though I last read TLHoD a good half century ago.
As for next, after the extras, no idea. Maybe read some of my shelf books to get them off the shelf, as I did four years ago and eight years ago. But I'm feeling apocalyptic these days- end times, and all- and think my twilight years should be frittered away in light genre fic.
