Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 07:40 pmThis getting up at a retiree's definition of early is a pain, but it lets me get a wash done and on the line in the decreasing amount of daylight. Though a clickbait article on 10 reasons not to hang your clothes outside tells me that reason no.1 is 'it might rain and then your clothes get moldy and damp!' Well, assuming you have no access to weather reports and such... And reason no.2 is 'the sun might bleach your clothes!' which is a feature where I come from, not a bug. Oh, and speaking of bugs, 'Insects might lay eggs in your clothes!' which is not really a problem I've encountered. 'Grit from roadwork, smells from fires' are all place-specific. Common sense, guys. Though I think this was all a lead-in to 'dryers are best for clothes and we recommend this $3000 jobbie' which I just bet you do. While I wouldn't mind a proper washer and dryer, I can't see me getting one in the near future. For one thing, my crumbling basement steps are overgrown with vines and that's the only way to get machines in. For another, I need to see the damned thing first to ascertain that it's in no way a smart machine. My bank has gone to two-factor authentication even though I never requested it, and while it's probably a good idea, not being able to see my balances without a charged phone handy irks me. Being locked out of my laundry by a glitch or worse, a power failure, is not the future I want to live in.
In other Things Have Changed departments, the Christie coffee shop with the smoked salmon bagels has changed hands and now serves Mexican food I have no interest in. Equally the superior chocolate store across from Loblaws has moved to up on St Clair, after sixteen years as a neighbourhood institution. I am old and do not like New Stuff like this.
Weighed myself this morning finally. Have not gained any weight since last time, have not lost any weight either. Since I seem incapable of strengthening my legs enough to stop things hurting (really do not believe strengthening exercises do anything of the sort) the only other option is to lose as much as I can, which the aging metabolism is reluctant to do. Age, feh.
