Friday, October 25th, 2024 08:59 pmThe city sends me a puzzling invoice that says a very hefty rebate will be in my account within 6 to 8 weeks and its sum is 0.00. Then I see the enclosure, which is a revised property tax bill saying I owe no taxes from July to December. Does this mean they'll refund that whole sum, which is twice what they say the rebate will be? Eventually I work out that I owe no taxes from July to October *because I've already paid them*, and that November and December are free. What put me off is that in the past, if the rebate is a say month and change worth, they'll not charge for the first month and then subtract the remainder from the next installment. This year it's the other way round: subtract the 'and change' from the first month and forgive the rest. This means I will be very flush for the next quarter because deductions start in February, so January is a freebie. How nice of them to give me this little present, though mature reflection suggests that city hall wants its money as soon as possible and doesn't want to wait till December for it.
Whatever, I am happy. Must try not to spend it all in restaurants.
Because I've dropped that kilo I put on and am back to my previous summer weight, a result of a week's low starch. Cauliflower bits may not be perfectly ideal, but they beat bread and butter and do fill me.
