Well I pawned my Smith-Corona and I went down to meet my man

A blowy breezy day, stripping leaves off the cherry tree-- at a quarter past August, oh dear-- id est a good day for laundry. But I have towels and face cloths and probably should wash tank tops and underwear in hot water at least once a year. So a good day for the laundromat,  especially as the kind Spanish speaking workmen taking their lunch break across the street at once come over to carry my walker and hamper down the steps for me. (They're from the aluminum company, presumably putting siding up on the renovating house on the west side two up from me. The oddity is that they speak Spanish, because these days most tradesmen are Russian.)

The laundromat is pretty busy but there's a $4 machine free, so I load up and go to get change. And there by the change machine is a note from the management: the hot water heater is broken, please use cold water till it's fixed. Well, I can do that at home for free, but it's a bit late to put it on the line. So instead I take my rolls of nickels and dimes to the bank and get cash for them, then trundle off to the swanky Korean/ Japanese restaurant that was once a Makkudonarudo and have a bento. Note that their sushi is very good, which is not always the case with expensive Japanese restaurants.

Pass my doutar playing friend who told me when I saw him Saturday that there'd been something major going down in his neighbourhood that morning: thirty cop cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. Turns out it was the Eritreans continuing their civil war ovr here. Even I had heard about that fracas, since it made the Guardian.
